ORIGIN & EVOLUTION

The origins of Modern store can be traced back to December 15th 1951. Established by Mr Janardhan Rao as a small retail store in Ooty, Tami Nadu, it grew up to become a store for unique retail products, exclusive food items and condiments. The store became popular within a short time. In due course a few cooks who worked for the erstwhile British, were engaged for making a variety of homemade chocolates and this was sold fresh to the local population and visiting tourist.

Chocolates from Modern Stores became very popular within a short time and Moddy's Chocolates was firmly established as a favourite among the customers for its quality and consistent taste. After 68 years since inception, this Family owned company based in Ooty  prides itself as being one of best Indian companies that manufactures Homemade Chocolates.

Now, with the most modern machinery, dedicated employees and the finest ingredients Moddy's Chocolates is able to consistently deliver the perfect balance of flavour, texture and colour. From the beginning, the Motto for business is to sell only quality Chocolates to its valued customers.

MODERN STORES - THE MOST POPULAR RETAIL STORE

Modern Stores is presently a favourite stop amongst the Locals of Ooty, School children and Tourists. It has grown from a small shop on the busy Commercial road to the current Super Retail Store on Garden road boasting of more than 5000 square feet which stocks almost everything needed under one roof.

With the dawn of the new millenium Modern Stores started expanding the Moddy's chocolates production. Mr Muralidhar Rao the enterprising son of Mr Janardhan Rao came up with innovative ways for making many varieties of these finely handcrafted chocolates and marketing throughout the country. Moddy's chocolates are now made in its spanking production unit with the best imported machines and boasts of more than 100 varieties of chocolates (commonly known as Ooty Chocolates)..

Moddy's makes the complete range of couverture chocolates like, Traditional nuts, Truffles, Bonbons, Plain Milk, Plain White, Plain Dark, Bars, Nutties, Fruity Delights, Clusters, Squares, Giandujas, Easter and Christmas Dolls, etc and many more. Range of Fudges of more than 35 varieties. Confectionery products like Cookies, Brownies, Marshmallows, Patte De Fruit, Plum Cakes, Fruit Cakes, Photo Cakes, range of other cakes, Breads, Sardough Breads, Crossants, tarts, etc.

Recently One more spacious Flagship Modern Store has been opened with a model cafe and Moddy's Chocolate shop with Ice Creams at Coonoor. Moddy's is a registered Brand. There are many plans on the anvil to bring an international chocolate experience to the people of India.
